On Friday, 16 February, the Republic of Lithuania celebrates its 100th anniversary as an independent country. Four Dutch carillonneurs have joined forces to play Lithuanian carillon music in a relay of recitals:
DELDEN – Carillonneur, organist and conductor Willem Mesdag passed away at the age of 87 on Monday 8 January. He was born in Uithuizermeeden in the county of Groningen on 13 August 1930. The funeral service took place in the Oude Blasiuskerk in Delden on 12 January. He was buried at the Algemene Begraafplaats beside his beloved wife Geertruide Schuurman, who died in 1997.
Rien Donkersloot will succeed Gijsbert Kok as from 1 January 2018 as Basic Harmony teacher at the HKU Nederlandse Beiaardschool in Amersfoort. The newly-appointed teacher will teach both first year- and advanced students.
Gijsbert Kok announced his retirement as Harmony teacher at the HKU Nederlandse Beiaardschool on 1 September 2017. He had already stopped teaching majors before. Gijsbert joined the HKU Nederlandse Beiaardschool in January 2011. Since then, he has taught the tricks of the trade to many Dutch and foreign students. He also was a member of several examining boards.

As of 1 January 2018 Bob van der Linde is the new city carillonneur of Arnhem. Four of the twelve applicants were invited by the Eusebius Arnhem Foundation for an audition that took place on Wednesday, November 15th. This was judged by a jury consisting of Frank Deleu, former city carillonneur of Brugge, Thom Koldenhof, former dicrector of Artez (conservatorium Arnhem) and Gert Oldenbeuving, former city carillonneur of Nijmegen and Zutphen. Bob’s musical qualities were very convincing and also because of his ambitions as carillonneur the jury decided to nominate him.
On Saturday 25 November 2017 at 2 pm, not only will a new baton keyboard be put to use, but also the five new bells in the Carillon Tower in Edam will also sound officially for the first time. The carillon of Edam previously consisted of 37 bells, 4 by Peter I van den Gheyn (cast in1561) and 33 by Petit & Fritsen (cast in 1970).
